ALTACITIES®, an acronym for “ALTERNATE CITIES,” is the web moniker for the neighborhood of sites, blogs and locations created and managed by @ALTALOMAN, in reference to our first web journals and blogging activity when residents of Alta Loma in Southern California. In 2011, we moved but these ALTACITIES® remain in the form of common interest developments ▶http://flip.it/VQOxZn on Flipboard
The SocialCurrentSee found on this site deals largely with common interest developments, aka homeowner associations or HOAs, now the dominant housing development type in California and much of the rest of the nation.  For the numbers, see this DATA.

▶ Many of the sources archived and flipped here are found in my TWITTER feed and searches like the archive found below.

▶ Whether one owns a townhouse, raw land in a subdivision, a gated-community home, a shack in zoned jungle, or part stake in a condominium complex the majority of people who live there are often not always thrilled about the few folks who also live there and are set up as authority figures known as The Board. It is a universally known truism that the members of such "boards" have been known to try and institute/enforce rules which perhaps suit them more than they suit everyone else (such as what colors they prefer to see everyone's homes painted, for example, and whether or not neighbors should be allowed to put up a laundry line or raise chickens)…and, as a governing body, they are also universally known to revise homeowner fees...ever upwards.

▶ So I was thrilled when I moved to a rural area where there were still subdivisions that did not have these kinds of mandatory rules or fees...even though a voluntary homeowner Board did exist to organize things like road maintenance and Neighborhood Watch activities. This is the 'hood for me! I thought, signing on the dotted line to purchase my very own little rustic mecca in the tropical wilds.

▶ And things were very peaceful for many years, until one day…
